and otis place in columbia heights. kristin fisher is there live to tell us exactly what's going on. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. how would you feel if all of the stuff you have been collected in your home has been spread out for everybody to see. we have a lamp and furniture. cooking utensils over here. vacuum cleaner and this stuff here we have a notebook and clothing and this is not just centralized in one location. walk with me over here. i'll show you what i'm talking about. this is 11th street. all of this stuff is spread out down 11th street for two city blocks. it's just a massive amount of stuff and it's piled up in some places about four or five feet high. now all of this stuff belongs to a woman named eloise diaz. she's 50 years old principle venezuela and she says she was evicted from her home. all of her stuff was evicted from her house onto this street. the city trucks are coming to pick it up and take it to the dump later this morning and i asked her this morning what do you think about all of this? this is happening to people all over the coun

-together homes in the 8300 block of tillotts loop. kristin fisher is joining us with more. >> the fire is out but the families are feeling the affects of this massive fire. three homes were destroyed t. eight more damaged. and the families that were living inside are being housed by the red cross. started around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. that's this when the fire broke out. neighbors heard a loud bang and saw two houses engulfed in flames an then the flames spread to eight houses total. neighbors said it looked like dominoes falling. the flames were so powerful it carried embers 350-yards away. the plumes of smoke so thick and heavy that many driving to manassas after work thought that a plane had crashed nearby. >> i saw five plumes separate. and i thought, man i hope -- i know the airport is there and everything. we have great security here. >> reporter: incredibly no one was inside the homes when the fire broke out. a few people did go to the hospital for smoke inhalation. but for the most part everyone is fine. sadly several pets, cats and dogs were trapped inside one of the homes. all of

on the scene for just a little while and join us with the details. >> reporter: good morning. it is still kite an active scene. you can see behind me lots of firefighters still here on the scene trying to put out hot spots in this high-rise building. if you take a look, can you see the residents in this apartment building have been evacuated and are still waiting out here at the scene just trying to get word about whether or not they can get back in. i can tell you right now, this is what we he know so far. the fire started at about 4:00 this morning. firefighters are telling me it started on the fisk floor of this apartment building. it appears as though they're telling us that it started from a trash fire inside of a stairwell on the fisk floor. it spread pretty quickly. there was a lot of smoke from what i was hearing from everybody here on the scene. lots of people trying to run for safety. i can tell you right now the late we are hearing is that they took seven people to the hospital. we understand from one person that was if critical condition, all adults from what we understand but ther

on the streets. what more can you tell us? >> eight people were transported to the hospital. five to the burn unit and one with a child. two people are in critical condition. i want to show you the scene down the street here. there are still some fire crews inside the building. it's an eight-story apartment building and they believe it started on the fifth floor. everyone is out of the building. firefighters say they have it under control but there are still hot spots. they believe the fire started in a common area. they had to use ladders to rescue people. >> i walked out and saw black smoke just like over, covering the ceiling and then like that black smoke like there was orange flames reflecking off of it. it was so hot one person had to jump out of a window. that's one of the people in critical condition. they don't know if that person will pull through. reporting live in northwest washington, lindsey mastis, 9 news now. >>> we are hoping to learn more from police about the deadly shooting on u and 88th -- 11th street northwest. it happened during the middle of the day. police say at leas

>> and once again, we say good morning, washington. we are glad you're joining us. for the second straight morning, we're waking up with scattered rain showers. let's get straight to your traffic and weather. lisa is standing by with the latest on how all of this is affecting your commute. first, meteorologist adam caskey. what's the latest? >> a flash flood watch in effect until 8:00 a.m. and then big changes coming, this just in the next couple of hours. the flash flood watch is almost for the entire viewing area. it does include the metro area in parts of virginia and maryland. so let's go to the doppler 7 radar. the temperatures shown in yellow. notice the yellow and the red on the radar? the very heavy rainfall clipping fairfax county. it is going to cross over the potomac and into frederick county and then hagerstown as well momentarily this morning. otherwise, a few spotty, light showers going on the high temperature about 83, becoming less humid. we'll dry out and have a fair amount of sunshine. more rainfall later this week. >> while you were sleeping there was a crash on
